Summary: The Department of Music at New Mexico State University is seeking an active and highly motivated individual with strong interpersonal skills and a student-centered dedication to teaching to serve as an Assistant Professor of Theory/Collaborative Piano beginning in the Fall semester of 2024.

Classification Summary:
The Department of Music at New Mexico State University is seeking an active and highly motivated individual with strong interpersonal skills and a student-centered dedication to teaching to serve as an Assistant Professor of Theory/Collaborative Piano beginning in the Fall semester of 2024.

Classification Standard Duties:
Teaching - Duties will include teaching undergraduate music theory courses, as well as developing a degree in collaborative piano. Other responsibilities will include recruiting on behalf of the NMSU Music Department. The successful candidate will be assigned additional duties dependent upon the applicant’s areas of expertise and the needs of the department.

Research – appropriate research activities include conference attendance/performance, publications, collaborative performances with NMSU music faculty and graduate students.

Service – Development of a collaborative piano degree program. Lead student recruitment efforts through building and maintaining productive relationships with appropriate programs. Participate in departmental and university committees and other university activities as assigned.

Outreach – Build and maintain productive relationships with applicable programs.

Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency
Masters in Piano Performance or Collaborative Piano is required.
Doctorate in Collaborative Piano, Piano Performance, or Music Theory is highly preferred, but requisite professional experience may be considered in lieu of the terminal degree.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
The successful candidate will have strong communication and organizational skills, a collaborative and collegial approach to music-making, and commitment to the highest standards of musicianship and teaching.
